The charitable organization will present a home to National Guard Reserve Ivan Arroyo and his family at 11 a.m. Wednesday at their new house at 54 Purser Place, New Rochelle.

The Arroyos are the third family in two years Habitat for Humanity has helped receive a home.

“We are honored to be able to give another veteran a home,” Habitat for Humanity CEO Jim Killoran said in a statement. “Ivan is a true hero. Habitat of Westchester is committed more now than ever to abolish the crisis of affordable housing in this country.”

After living in Yonkers for more than 40 years, the father of four was awarded the new home after writing a letter to the organization stressing his concern for his family’s safety.

“Having to try to keep my family away from all the crime was very stressful for all of us,” wrote Arroyo in his letter. “Not being able to sit outside my door with my family was stressful.”

The Habitat for Humanity of Westchester is part of the Westchester Veteran’s Initiative, which has assisted young veterans in planning their careers since their inception in 2003. Habitat’s Veteran Outreach program is open to all former Armed Forces personnel looking to volunteer, build homes and gain knowledge, experience and training on work sites.
